Whole Body Cryotherapy

At Spring Physical Therapy we offer whole body cryotherapy. Whole body cryotherapy involves exposing your body to subzero temperatures for 2 to 3 minutes. As the body is exposed to these freezing temperatures, it enacts a natural fight or flight response.

How does whole body cryotherapy work?

This service exposes the entire body to sub-zero temperatures, which can exceed -200° Fahrenheit, inside of a chamber for up to 3 minutes. As the body is exposed to these freezing temperatures, it enacts a natural fight or flight response that constricts blood vessels to restrict blood away from extremities. This redirection causes your body to move blood toward the core, protecting your organs. During this process, the body increases its levels of oxygen and certain proteins that can decrease swelling. When you exit the cryotherapy chamber and return to normal room temperature, this oxygen-rich blood moves back through the body. This service utilizes controlled, natural stressors to increase your body’s resilience and improve health.

There are 3 different temperature levels (level 1 to level 3) each getting progressively colder. We recommend starting at level 1 for 3 minutes and work your way up to a level 3. Each session can burn up to 800 calories. Following the session, your boosted metabolism will keep working for you, helping you burn calories faster and lose weight more effectively.

What are the benefits of whole body cryotherapy?

  • Reduce pain
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Reduce arthritic pain
  • Weight loss (burn up to 800 calories per session)
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Boost mood, energy and improve sleep

Local Cryotherapy

This type of cryotherapy can be done without getting in the whole body chamber. This is great for what we call spot treatments i.e. treating just the shoulder, knee, elbow, lower back, or neck. This treatment increases blood flow to injured or sore muscles and joints. Extreme cold applied to the injured area stimulates oxygenated blood flow, reducing tension and inflammation. This is an amazing treatment to help reduce swelling and inflammation for soft tissue injuries.
